Make a Wish Foundation logo The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1980 after a little boy named Chris Greicius realized his heartfelt wish to become a police officer. Since its humble beginnings, the organization has blossomed into a worldwide phenomenon, reaching more than 174,000 children around the world.

Although it has become one of the world's most well-known charities, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has maintained the grassroots fulfillment of its mission.
A network of nearly 25,000 volunteers enable the Make-A-Wish Foundation to serve children with life-threatening medical conditions. Volunteers serve as wish granters, fundraisers, special events assistants and in numerous other capacities.

As the Foundation continues to mature, its mission will remain steadfast. Wish children of the past, present and future will have an opportunity to share the power of a wish®.

Reeve Foundation logo

The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation's roots stretch back to 1982 when the American Paralysis Association was formed by a group of people that refused to accept the prevailing notion that the spinal cord, once injured, could not be repaired. Today, the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research, and improving the quality of life for people living with paralysis through grants, information and advocacy.

Following his injury in 1995, Christopher Reeve sought out the organization, finding a cause to which he could lend his name, passion and drive. He said, "I have always been a crusader for causes I believe in. This time, the cause found me." Christopher Reeve’s injury changed the field forever and it was his vision, his passion, brilliance and creativity that made this one of the most promising fields in research.

Nothing but Nets logo

Nothing But Nets is a global grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. Inspired by ESPN columnist Rick Reilly, thousands of people have joined the campaign that was created by the United Nations Foundation in 2006. Malaria is a leading killer in Africa, where a child dies every 30 seconds. $10 sends a life-saving bed net to prevent the disease.  Visit NothingButNets.net to send a net and save a life.

Help us drop the New Year's Eve ball on Malaria! This year the United Nations Foundation's Nothing But Netshas teamed up with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to protect more than one million refugees in Africa from malaria.  Good news – we’re almost there!  We need 160,000 nets before December 31, 2009. To get us to our goal,  Rick Reilly of ESPN, who inspired the Nothing But Nets campaign, will match your donation - net for net - up to a total of $25,000.

Send a Net.  Save a Life.  See a Game.  NBA Cares—one of our founding partners—will throw in two free tickets to an NBA game for any donation of $10 or more, while supplies last. They’re running out quickly, so get online to get your tickets.

Trees Atlanta logo

Trees Atlanta is a nationally recognized citizens group dedicated to protecting and improving Atlanta's urban forest by planting, conserving and educating.  Trees Atlanta cares for trees young and old.  Since 1985, Trees Atlanta has planted and distributed more than 75,000 trees.  Trees Atlanta volunteers plant and care for community trees every Saturday morning year round through the organization's NeighborWoods program.  Trees Atlanta also plants large trees in sidewalks, parking lots and along Atlanta's streets through its Big Trees program.

The organization also teaches the public about the importance of trees and tree identification through its Neighborhood Arboreta program--now in 8 Atlanta neighborhoods--as well as its Education program.  Trees Atlanta preserves Atlanta's mature trees and ensures their future health through Forest Restoration in Metro Atlanta greenspaces. In 2010, Trees Atlanta will continue to plant trees unique to Atlanta along its 22-mile Atlanta BeltLine Arboretum.  Once fully in place, this will be the world's longest linear arboretum.  Over the past 30 years, Atlanta has lost 65% of its tree cover.  Trees Atlanta is putting those trees back to ensure healthy air, land and water for all those who live in and visit Atlanta.

Bead for Life logo

Bead for Life creates sustainable opportunities for women to life their families out of extreme poverty by connecting people worldwide in a circle of exchange that enriches everyone. The organization works with hundreds of impoverished Ugandan women who were living on less than $1 a day. Most of these women are mothers and taking care of AIDS orphans, are themselves living with HIV and or are war refugees. This is an extremely impoverished group.

Beads are all made from recycled paper and sealed with a non toxic varnish making them eco friendly, and are very affordable costing between $5 - $30. The beads are primarily sold through BeadParties in homes and offices across North America and internationally. At BeadParties guests can learn about the women in BeadforLIfe, sample African recipes, listen to original songs, and watch a DVD showing how the beads are made. And of course, buy beads!
